After successful work on the Adams Center renovation in 1996 and the Stadium renovation and Master Plan in 2005, the University of Montana hired SportsPLAN Studio to update their Master Plan in 2013. The first phase of the plan grew out of a recognized need for Football locker room space and a strength and conditioning center. Recognition of that potential led to the master planning of nearly all the Grizzly Athletic buildings on campus.
The complex features an historic McKim Mead and White casino, now a tennis museum, other historic buildings, lawn tennis courts, indoor tennis courts, squash courts, 3,400 seat Bill Talbert court and the Court Tennis facility built in 1880. Court tennis is the the game from which all racquet sports evolved.
The updated Master Plan includes renovations and upgrades to all the Adams Center locker rooms, expanded equipment storage space, expanded athletic training space, addition of player meeting rooms and improvements to the Stadium concourse and spectator amenities. The team realized the potential for immediate improvement, which led to preliminary conceptual designs for several projects. A new softball venue was completed in the spring of 2015, and The University of Montana has proudly announced the Washington-Grizzly Champions Center is currently under construction.
